Chefs choose charities to receive $1 million

Added October 28, 2011

Ten charities will each receive a $100,000 grant as part of this year’s Paul Newman’s Own 10 Chefs $1 million charity program.

The charities were nominated by 10 of Australia’s leading chefs, who joined the campaign to honour the late actor and philanthropist Paul Newman and his belief that every individual has the power to make a difference. Profits

The ten chefs and the charities they have chosen to receive the $100,000 donation from the Newman’s Own Foundation are Maggie Beer – Tutti; Stefano de Pieri - Chances for Children; Adam D’Sylva - Mirabel Foundation; Peter Evans - Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation; Margaret Fulton - Giant Steps; Ed Halmagyi - Bear Cottage; Luke Mangan - Camp Quality (pictured); Alastair McLeod – Youngcare; Ian Parmenter - Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation, and Dominique Rizzo - Brisbane Youth Service Centre for Young Women.

According to Newman’s Own advisor Sue Home, the Foundation worked closely with the chefs throughout the charity selection process.

“All of these chefs have already demonstrated a commitment to giving back to the community through their charity work, and we are delighted to have them partner with Newman’s Own Foundation,” she says.

“This is the first time the Foundation has worked with leading chefs in support of their charitable work,” said Robert Forrester, CEO of Newman’s Own Foundation. “It’s a great tribute to Paul Newman and his legacy, since his two great passions were food and philanthropy.”

The Foundation has donated $2 million to Australian charities this year alone.
