Huon salmon in line for top honour

Tasmanian salmon producer Huon Aquaculture has been nominated for the prestigious Royal Agricultural Society (RAS) of NSW President’s Medal for their Banquet Slice Cold Smoked Salmon, which won Champion Salmon Product at the 2010 Sydney Royal Fine Food Show.

Huon Aquaculture goes up against five other Champion Medal winners from the Sydney Royal Wine, Dairy and Fine Food Shows earlier this year to compete for the President’s Medal.

The President’s Medal is the only award of its kind in Australia where champion products and producers from the wine, dairy and fine food industries are assessed on financial, social and environmental performance, market acceptance and point of sale appeal, as well as the passion and commitment of the producer. The other  companies vying for the honour are Bulla Dairy Foods, Holy Goat Cheese, The Yalumba Wine Company, Peter Lehmann Wines and T & R Pastoral.

Co-founder of Huon Aquaculture, Frances Bender, said that the Huon Aquaculture team was honoured to make it to the next level of judging. “We are very proud of our salmon, and it is great to be recognised for doing something that we love.”

The winner of the 2010 Presidents Medal will be announced on June 14 at a gala dinner to be held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Sydney.
