Word of mouth is key for many Australians when it comes to deciding on a restaurant to eat out in, according to new Roy Morgan research, which found that dining out is the second most discussed topic amongst Australians aged 14+.
Nearly two thirds of Australians (61 per cent) say they have either sought advice from, or been the source of advice for their friends and family, about eating out in restaurants.
Other popular topics amongst Australians include buying a car (62 per cent); planning a holiday (57 per cent); home entertainment or electronics (48 per cent); mobile phones (45 per cent); signing up to an Internet provider (42 per cent); finance and investments (40 per cent); home renovations (40 per cent), and health and nutrition (37%).
“Marketers have always understood the importance and value of Word of Mouth to promote their products,” says John La Rosa, industry director - agencies, Roy Morgan Research. “With our research, we can look at how much each topic is being discussed and whose opinions are sought as trusted advisers, and where information seekers. In some areas, like eating out at a restaurant, there are a large percentage of people who regards themselves as both.”
